Mandarin introduced as a new elective in schools
According to a recent media statement by the Department of Basic Education, Mandarin will be introduced as a new elective subject in schools, in terms of a co-operation agreement signed last year by South Africa and China on formalising the teaching of Mandarin in South African schools. The Minister has appointed a task team to determine whether Mandarin should be taught as a first or second additional language – or both. http://www.legalbrief.co.za/article.php?story=20140613052640445
