The winners of the 2021 Lexology Client Choice Awards were announced on 14 October 2021. Fairbridges Wertheim Becker is pleased to announce that our partner Lucinda Verster was announced the exclusive winner for Competition Law in South Africa.

Established in 2005, Client Choice recognises those individuals around the world that “stand apart for the excellent client service they provide and the quality of their service”.

The award winners from this year hail from across 73 jurisdictions worldwide and were chosen from a pool of more than 2,000 individual client assessments. The criteria for this recognition focus on an ability to add “real value to clients’ business above and beyond the other players in the market”.

Using surveys from in-house counsel and editorial research, award candidates were evaluated based on the following criteria: quality of advice, commercial awareness, industry knowledge, strategic thinking, billing transparency, tailored fee structures, value for money, responsiveness, effective communication, clarity of documentation, sharing of expertise, appropriate staffing, project management, use of technology, loyalty, and ethics. To ensure that the results cannot be influenced, law firms are not informed when this initial round of research is conducted.

Lucinda was involved in the first damages action following a Competition Law breach thus setting a precedent in South African Competition Law. Various international research organisations have recognised Lucinda’s expertise. In 2014 and 2017 she was the recipient of Global Competition Review awards for specific matters that she was involved in. In 2015 she was included in the Global Competition Review Top 40 Under 40 list which featured 40 of the world’s top Competition Law specialists under 40 years old and in 2020 and 2021 she was recognised by Who’s Who Legal. She specialises in all aspects of Competition Law and advises and represents clients on prohibited practices, merger control, cartel investigations, corporate leniency applications, and compliance programmes.
